EOS Golden Anniversary
EOS celebrates its golden anniversary (1957-2007) along with many other considerable occasions such as the 50th year of its membership of ISO, the World Standards Day, the finalization of Egyptian standards harmonization with international standards as well as the availability of all Egyptian standards on EOS website www.eos.org.eg and the Egyptian electronic government website www.egypt.gov.eg

EOS will participate in the 6th Euromed Working Group on Standards, Technical Regulations and Conformity Assessment to be held on 10 September 2007, in Brussels - Belgium. Eng. Samia Mahmoud El-Azazy, Manager of Harmonization Project will represent EOS in the above-mentioned meeting. This meeting will focus on the following issues: Cooperation between Med countries and the EU with regard to Market Surveillance, Med countries participation in the corresponding EU Groups and the recent reform of Affiliate Membership in CEN and CENELEC.

EOS will participate in the Extra-Ordinary Meeting of 36th ARSO Council to be held during the period from 16 – 17 August 2007, in Nairobi – Kenya. Eng. Essam Shams El-Din, General Manager for Standards Dept. will represent EOS in the above- mentioned meeting. A number of topics related to standardization activities in the African Continent will be discussed during the meeting in addition to the election of ARSO : - Vice President - Treasurer - Council Committees - Technical Management - Committee members Also, any additional agenda items proposed by any Council member states will be discussed.

EOS Hosts the Consultation on COMESA Dairy Standards Meeting
Under the auspices of H. E. Eng. Rachid Mohamed Rachid Minister of Trade and Industry, EOS hosts the Consultation on COMESA Dairy Standards Meeting to be held in Cairo, from 30th July to 1st August 2007.
The meeting is purposing to study the possible ways to create a mutual base for dairy standards in COMESA countries in order to facilitate the commercial exchange among such countries. Many topics related to dairy standards will be discussed during the meeting, especially food microbiology and feedstuffs as well as the microbiological inspection and analysis.
The meeting will be held with the participation of approximately 25 participants representing the academic, research and governmental bodies concerned with dairy products in addition to the large companies in this field

· Closure of ISO/TC 34 SC9 Meeting along with CEN/TC 275 WG6 to be held in Cairo from 23-27 April 2007.

· Closure of ISO/TC 176/CSAG Meeting in Cairo from 7-8 May 2007.
Under the auspices of H.E. Eng. Rachid M. Rachid, the Minister of Trade and Industry, Closure of ISO/TC 176/CSAG Meeting in Cairo from 7-8 May 2007., through which Egypt proposal for issuing an International Standard for time management systems and the response speed to variables will be discussed as many countries have approved and welcomed this proposal. In this respect, Dr. Eng. Mahmoud Eisa, EOS President and the Regional Liaison Officer for the Arab and Mediterranean Region, has declared that selecting Egypt for hosting the Quality Systems Strategic Planning Committee Meetings in Cairo is due to many reasons; first of which is the increasing role of Egypt in participating in standards and quality activities at the international level, in addition to the new draft standard related to time. He also added that these meetings will discuss the strategic plan of Quality Management Systems series of standards ISO 9000 as well as the preparation for its fourth edition to be issued in 2009 coping with the continuous development in quality and excellence criteria, the administrative and technological developments and the increase of competitiveness worldwide. Moreover, studying the principles and bases for issuing the standards previously proposed by Egypt for time and speed management systems that have been inserted by ISO, after being approved by many countries, in the committee's work plan will be handled during these meetings as well for the benefit of work environment and market in all its fields.

Closure of the ARSO Expert Committee Meeting on " African Standards Harmonisation Model"
Under the auspices of H.E. Rachid M. Rachid, the Minister of Trade and Industry, the Egyptian Organization for Standardization and Quality (EOS) hosts ARSO Expert Committee Meeting on the "Evolution of African Standards Harmonization Model" during the period from 22-25 May 2007, Cairo.
Several topics was discussed during the meeting including:
- Development of Standardisation Model for Improvement of African Trade. - East African Community (EAC) Standards Harmonisation Model - Arab Maghreb Union (AMU) Standards Harmonisation Model - Southern African Development Community (SADC) Standards Harmonisation Model - Economic Community of West African States (ECOWAS) Standards Harmonisation Model. - West African Economic and Monetary Union (UEMOA) Standards Harmonisation Model.
About 20 participants representing some African countries and international and regional organizations participated in the above mentioned meeting as follows: Kenya –Ghana – Nigeria – Sudan – Tunisia – Malawi – Congo DR – Zimbabwe – South Africa - SIDA- COMESA – ARSO –AUC - UEMOA.

EOS participated in the 29th Meeting of the High Consultancy Committee for Standardization, represented by Eng. Essam Shams El-Din, General Manager of Standards Department. The meeting will be held during the period 22-23 May, 2007 in Rabat, Morocco at the premises of Arab Industrial Development and Mining Organization ( AIDMO), and it will discuss several reports including the following: - The activities of the Joint Arab Translation Working Group (JATWG) submitted by EOS. - ISO/TMB Resolution for establishing a working group to supervise the translation of international standards into Arabic. - Arabic Standards Updating Plan and the translation of international guides and standards on quality management systems and the environmental management into Arabic. - Following up the execution of the Executive Council Resolution No. 3/475 (Rabat 15-17 December, 2005) relevant to the Arab Summit Resolution in Tunisia No. 272-5 (2004) concerning the unified Arabic standards. - The proposal of the Arab Ministers Council for Electricity Secretariat for forming a committee responsible for issuing the unified Arabic standards for electricity. - The Resolution of the Arab Ministers Council for Housing and Building to issue unified Arabic standards for building. - The proposal of the Arab Economic Unity Council Secretariat and the National Institute for Standards in Egypt for establishing Arab Center for Measurements and Metrology.

· EOS participates in the 59th Executive Committee Session of the Codex Alimentarius Commission held during the period from 26 to 30 June 2007 in Rome – Italy. Dr.Eng. Mahmoud Eisa , EOS President, represents EOS in the above- mentioned session. A number of subjects related to food safety are to be discussed during the session, in addition to other matters concerning the work of the Commission.
