Egypt is currently participating in setting up an international system through ISO with the purpose of protecting consumers worldwide from commercial and industrial deceit. In this respect, ISO/COPOLCO is now laying down a draft for implementing this proposed system so as to assist countries and consumers to exchange and recall the defective products locally and internationally. This system will be in accordance with specific criteria for the benefit of both producers and consumers and will be adopted as well by the governments and certification bodies so as to prevent and resist any trials for deception, imitation and production of defective products.
In this regard, Dr. Eng. Mahmoud Eisa, EOS President and ISO RLO for the Arab and Mediterranean Region, has stated that this system will be useful for the protection of consumers as well as countries through making them able to recall internationally the defective, deceited or imitated commodities as ISO expects that there will be great benefits from the application of this system. On consumer's level, this system will contribute to the acknowledgment of the rights of countries or individuals to recall unsafe products to the responsible party even if abroad as long as they have been proved to be defective or deceited. Meanwhile, on businessmen's level, this system will provide them with protection through recalling the commodities that they import from abroad as well in case that they have been proved to be defective. In addition, it gives them the opportunity to be committed towards consumers for fulfilling consumers' satisfaction and for increasing purchase. Moreover, this system will be helpful to legislators and those involved in legal affairs as a standard measure in case there is an international, regional or judicial dispute.
